Physical Access Tools and Strategies (Tier 3)

The following lists of physical access tools and strategies are important to consider when determining what types of assistive technology need to be trialed or implemented to support your struggling student. The Assistive Technology Specialist will facilitate the trial and implementation of various tools and strategies to assist your student.

  • Closed captioning

  • Train student to use the selected tool, often beginning with smaller increments of time and increasing gradually, as the student's stamina and tolerance increases.
  • If considering voice recognition/speech-to-text software, it is helpful to practice such skills as dictation, editing, organizing ideas, etc. prior to utilizing the software.
